It was great to have everyone racing again, with runners joining us from far and wide for the 2022 Bluebell Trail event.

Pierson smashes club 10k record

Congratulations to Matthew Pierson who has set a new 10K club record clocking a super impressive 31 minutes 35 seconds.

After a rigorous training regime Matthew was happy to show 'there is life in the old dog yet...'

Matthew also finished in 1st position at the Big Flat Runway event organised by @myracebest

Lands End to John O'Groats Challenge

And there we have it, our Lands End to John O'Groats Challenge is over. Our bean counters have been busy scrolling through Strava to register every run and count up all the miles to see how far we've got...

Did we manage 1,083 within the 24 hour window? No we didn't...

We managed 1,654 miles!!!! When the time came our members answered the call and all went that extra mile, in some cases an extra 20 miles!!!

136 of our members have been for a run this weekend.

56 members ran between 1 mile and 13 miles.

75 members ran between 13 miles and 26 miles.

4 members ran between 26 miles and 31 miles.

1 member ran 65 miles.

2 weeks a go this genuinely didn't seem like a challenge we could do, our club, like many things has been shut, our members apart, but the challenge gave everyone an opportunity to put on their vest and get out there.

It brought us together again and gave us all a common cause, which has been lacking over the last year.

The other factor being that it was a challenge which we hoped to raise a lot of money for our community charity of the year Overgate Hospice. On that front, we've surpassed all expectations as well...

At the time of writing we've raised £6,660, which 100% will go to Overgate. For that we thank everyone who has supported any one of our runners.

The 2020 Summer Handicap Event

The Lions Summer Handicap event took on a different look this year. The usual process of being shown a route, guessing how far it is and how fast (or slow) you can run it, surrendering your GPS/timing device and then running off at some random pace that is usually nowhere near what you think, was thrown out by the Covid lockdown restrictions.
Instead, the boffins at the club chose a delightful little route (The Helen Windsor 10k race route), turned it around, added on few hundred metres, and made us run it as quickly as possible. Not so delightful anymore! Although the views around Norland made up for it.

Every member was given a handicap time that was (supposedly) an indication of form and 10k ability, and away we went. Then simply add the handicap time (or minus) to your actual run time. The idea being that everyone would be somewhere around 60 minutes.
There were a few grumblings about some of the handicap allowances, most people thought theirs was way too harsh and everyone elses was way too lenient. Nethertheless, 72 Lions had a crack at it, some sadists even did it more than once to try and improve their time.

After a weeks fierce competition where everyone thought Will Rushworth was unbeatable and despite Danny Stafford putting in a valiant second attempt to claim the win, Ben Carter quietly cruised round Norland Moor in a winning time of 54:03 to claim the trophy.

A huge congratulations to Ben who will receive his trophy at next year’s annual dinner.

Will this format make its way into next year’s Handicap event? Who knows, but a few inquests into people’s handicap times might be requested, or a VAR inquest mid event! Either way, great fun was had by all.

Bluebell 10 Cancelled

It is with regret that we have to announce that the committee have taken the decision to cancel this years postponed Bluebell Trail 10 race.

We delayed making this decision as long as possible, as we know how much the running community and our Club members enjoy this race. However the safety of all participants, our club members and the local community during the current Covid 19 pandemic has to take precedence, so we have decided that it is in everyone's best interest to cancel this years event.

Next year the Bluebells will flower again, Trooper Lane will still be as steep and the Calder will undoubtedly be as cold as ever and we will be back to host the race on Sunday 9th May 2021.

All entries for this years race will automatically be rolled over to next year, transfers / refunds (less BookitZone fees) will be available if this date is not convenient.

Bluebell 10 Postponed

Further to yesterday’s announcement we have postponed this years Bluebell Race until 20th September 2020. This is the date we had set aside for the Stainland Trail race which we will cancel this year.

Anyone already booked on the race will automatically be transferred to the new date and you need do nothing. If you cannot now make the new date, you will be offered a refund (minus bookitzone’s non-refundable fee).

All entries will receive an email from bookitzone shortly advising what to do to.

Further news and updates on places will be posted as and when we know more.
